That Homegrown Feeling

Today's Pick

Looking at Today's Pick I get a sense of that "Homegrown Feeling". That feeling of when I would comb through the garden and tussle the leaves to find a beautiful  eggplant or zucchini for our evening supper. This piece gives me peace. This piece brings me comfort and contentment reminding me of my homesteading days. The barn red background. The lightly washed crackle paste mimicking old plaster walls. The azo gold of the table bringing fond memories of the work table in the kitchen which was used for everything. From baking breads, making cheeses, to canning vegetables.

This painting may look a complete mess to you but to me Today's Pick is a comfort food.

Today's Pick was created using Golden HighFlow Acrylics and Golden Crackle Paste.

If you would like to create your own piece here are the steps I used:

I began with a 12x16 canvas board. Painting the surface of the board with Golden's Open Magenta and Hansa Yellow Medium. Allowing this mixture to dry.

Once this is dry I covered the surface with the crackle paste. While the paste is still wet, using a palette knife, I carved out the shape of the eggplant and the table. Allow this to dry.

Using Golden HighFlow acrylics the colors I selected are as follows:

Teal-for the background
Indigo/Florescent Pink-for the eggplant
Gold Green/Hansa Yellow Light-for the leaf and stem
Nickle Azo Gold-for the table

Have Fun

Happy Painting

The Flora Project

Flora the Book Promotion  Good morning everyone and Happy Spring! I've recently accepted a commission to create a doll to  represent the character of the book "Flora". I've been tasked with making 25 dolls to go with the book. Flora doll While making these dolls I thought I would share with you some design tips in crochet with what I've learned while making these dolls. Unfortunately I can't share the pattern itself but I can share some do's and don't(s) which may make your design projects go a bit more smoothly. For instance: Tip #1 (which I may have come to learn a bit late in the game) for a smoother finish look around the edges of sleeves and dresses use a slip stitch around the final row of the piece. The sleeve on the right is the sleeve with the slip stitch. The one on the left is not and it leaves a definite mark at the end of the row.  Let me know your thoughts about it or if you have any other suggestions to benefit all you lovely crochet-ers...
