All I see now is color. Colors blending and weaving through my mind. That is when I think of painting. This is what I've been experiencing the past couple months.
I was met with a health challenge this past August where my blood pressure hit the ceiling. After 5 days in the hospital no one told me about the impact high blood pressure would have on my cognitive abilities. The weeks to follow were arduous and grueling. Not a single thought would come to mind. It was vacant and desolate. My neurons surrendered and ceased to fire. Every day I would try to hold a thought. The thought of drawing or painting exhausted me. I couldn't understand what was happening until I came across a study that was conducted which I will share with you here.
High Blood Pressure May Impair Cognitive Function and Pose Risk for Alzheimer’s

Summary: A new study reports high blood pressure in middle age may lead to cognitive impairment and could be a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease.

High blood pressure in middle age can lead to impaired cognition and is a potential risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease, according to a statement from the American Heart Association co-authored by Loyola Medicine neurologist José Biller, MD.
There is consistent evidence that chronic high blood pressure during middle age (40 to 64) is associated with altered cognitive function in both middle age and late life (65 to 84). Cognitive abilities that are affected include memory, speed of processing and executive function (ability to organize thoughts, manage time, make decisions, etc.)
Every day I would practice "thinking". Then I began working on thinking of "processes". Processes in sequential order. I picked up a pencil to begin sketching a portrait to map out the facial features
This is as far as I was able to get with this. I hope to return to it soon.
Today I was determined to go farther. I had recently stocked up on some much needed supplies which arrived about 2 weeks ago. I remember prior to all this that when supplies came I couldn't wait to create a new piece. Today was going to be different.
Although I have difficulty standing for long periods of time I managed to begin laying the ground work for a new painting using a full sheet of paper 22x30.
I'm looking forward to seeing this painting come to life starting tomorrow. This is the first step and I feel accomplished today.
Blessings and Good Health to all of you.
