The Best of Both Worlds

 On Holiday

The boats are docked
The doors are locked
"Looks abandoned" some would say
"No, they've simply gone On Holiday"

I can't imagine ever wanting to leave a majestic place such as this. This is my perfect ideal dreamscape. An oasis away from the craggy confines of life. A sanctuary filled with warm breezes wafting the aroma of the azure seas with the lulling sounds of the waves softly caressing the rocky shore.
I had come upon a photo of this painting some years ago.

This is the photo reference. I simply fell in love with it. Having every intention to paint it the reference photo kept being put aside. Not sure of the medium to use, not having the confidence level to do it justice. It kept it's place in my box of inspiration. I would take it out time and again and it still remained a future project. That is until now.
I've been exploring and learning different techniques using pastels. Loving the pastels rather than abhorring all the dust. I am finding there are so many techniques to bring out the best of pastels. It's so much more than just chalk on paper.
My choice of using pastels for this painting brought out the best of both worlds. It brought out the best in the use of pastels and it brought out the best in portraying this magnificent dreamscape.
Now I can visit it everyday.

I give pastels a round of applause.

The Flora Project

Flora the Book Promotion  Good morning everyone and Happy Spring! I've recently accepted a commission to create a doll to  represent the character of the book "Flora". I've been tasked with making 25 dolls to go with the book. Flora doll While making these dolls I thought I would share with you some design tips in crochet with what I've learned while making these dolls. Unfortunately I can't share the pattern itself but I can share some do's and don't(s) which may make your design projects go a bit more smoothly. For instance: Tip #1 (which I may have come to learn a bit late in the game) for a smoother finish look around the edges of sleeves and dresses use a slip stitch around the final row of the piece. The sleeve on the right is the sleeve with the slip stitch. The one on the left is not and it leaves a definite mark at the end of the row.  Let me know your thoughts about it or if you have any other suggestions to benefit all you lovely crochet-ers...
